SYNOPSIS: This letter introduces the single slot, rotary dial and TOUCH-TONE, panel coin telephones. These instruments, coded the 2A1 and 2A2, respectively, are intended to replace the 235 and 1235 multi-slot, panel coin telephones which will be rated “Manufacture Discontinued.”

We are pleased to introduce the two new single slot, panel coin telephones. The rotary dial instrument, coded the 2A1-67 coin telephone set, and the TOUCH-TONE instrument, coded the 2A2-67 coin telephone set, are provided with a stainless steel exterior and are intended to replace the 235 and 1235 coin telephones which will be rated "Manufacture Discontinued."
These telephones combine in the panel housing the coin handling and signalling apparatus of the 1A1 coin telephone which was announced in my unnumbered letter of April 18, 1966.
The exterior dimensions of the new coin telephones are identical to the 235 and 1235 coin telephones and therefore may be mounted in any location that is now arranged for the older panel sets.
Fastening of the set is accomplished through mounting holes provided in the back and on both sides of the housing. Three holes are located in the upper back section, four in the vault area, and three on each of the two sides. In addition, provisions have been made for four of the new security studs, either P40Y060 for 3/16-inch thick backboards, or P40Y06l for 5/16—inch thick backboards. The standard fasteners for the mounting holes are 1/2-20 round head steel screws. The 127A and 127B covers formerly used with the multi-slot panel may also be used with the 2A-type set when the instrument is not flush mounted.
Photographs of both types of panel telephones are attached. It should be noted that the new instruments provide two windows for instruction cards.
The following card dimensions should be followed when preparing dial instruction cards:
| Length | Width | Thickness | |
| Upper Card | 6.140"+.003,-.005 | 2.130"+.015,-.025 | .055 inches |
| Lower Card | 6.140"+.003,-.005 | 2.843"+.015,-.025 | .055 inches |
These cards are interchangeable with the cards now used in the 1A1 and 1A2 coin telephones.
The upper door of the 2A--type coin telephone is secured with a 29A lock. The new 5A cash compartment door used with these sets is arranged to accept a 30-type cash compartment lock. The 5A door and the two locks are not provided with the basic instrument and must be ordered separately.
The cash compartment area, similar to all other single slot sets, is equipped with a false floor assembly which may be removed if the larger 1C coin receptacle is used.
The Western Electric Company advises that this apparatus is now available from factory stock. Ordering and price information is as follows:
